Simon Groom Has A Party

Our Pavilion patron Simon Groom and his lovely wife Gilly organised a super party in the Round House in Derby. Friends of the Grand Pavilion will remember the fantastic film that he produced with Doug Smith about the  Round House and showed around a year ago.
He gave a speech which was  just as entertaining as his comments to the group.
With music and good food it was a late night!

Parwich Wakes Carnival

Great day! Lots of men in suits holding little fingers and holding white sticks.
Claire and I Were there with half the stand, the other half was in Lea for their carnival. We signed up 5 members, which was good as there was not a big audience. Parwich is also on the boundary of where it is worth going to Buxton. But there was still interest in the Pavilion!

Pavilion Organ

We now have an organ! Thanks to Eunice Furness, who has sadly had to go into a home, we have been donated this lovely organ.
From now on, anyone who comes to the Pavilion Cafe can play it and entertain the other guests.

Whatstandwell Festival Again

Here is one of the bands playing which were very good. They made a good attempt at a Led Zeppelin number.
I ended up signing up 5 members; great!

HLF Meeting

Charles and I have just had a meeting with the Heritage Lottery Fund to discuss our bid. With us came Glynn Wilton, who is assisting in putting our bid together.

We are in a good position and they gave us a lot of advice about how we can get information together, to support our bid. Particularly helpful was the help we got to calculate to value the economic benefit to the community from the re-opening of the Grand Pavilion.

Watstandwell Music Festival

I'm here on a windy evening in Watstandwell. People camp and listen to the music, which is all local bands.
Mark Haslam organises it and has done for ten years. I probably won't sign anyone up, but it is fun!

Planning Another Friends Event

Andie and I met Simon Groom and Doug Smith to talk about another "evening with" event.
Simon is well known to us all, but Doug has worked with Simon on a number of projects and will do a talk and with films for the Friends Group.
This will hopefully come off in mid September or Early October.

Celebrating Cromford Day 2

Here are Dale Deva performing at Cromford. They put on a great show for us and had a good audience.
We were there with the stall and signing up members. 12 today and 18 for the weekend as a whole, not bad!

Holymoorside Festival

I have just been watching Wordplay at the Holymoorside and Walton Festival, which carries on for the next couple of weeks. I will be back tonight.
With the stand I hope that we should sign up a few members, it was not a hard sell!

Celebrating Cromford

It did not rain! The forecast was bad but in the end we just got spits of rain. I signed up 6 members and there were 4 renewals.
Ins the dog had a lovely time with three children walking her up and down the "Front"

The Door is now Red

Now we have a Red Door with the right texture of paint.  It is certainly a big change from the dirty grey and introduces all the improvements inside.

Theatres Trust Conference

I have just left the Theaters Trust conference in Victoria. This is the second that I have attended.
It was useful because I learnt a lot about subjects that I had not considered before.
One further funding body has been identified and all the issues around planning law, affecting Theatres was discussed. We should be getting involved with Local plans in Derbyshire Dales and working more with Local Enterprise Partnerships.
